Image Compressor
Reduce the file size of a JPEG, PNG or WebP image in your browser. Your image is never uploaded.
Your files stay on your device.
or drop a file here
Up to 50 MB and 100 megapixels. The file never leaves your device.
Lower is smaller. 70 to 80 is a good balance for photos.
Leave empty to keep the original dimensions.
JPEG and WebP are compressed by lowering quality. PNG is lossless in browsers, so it shrinks only if you limit its size or convert it to WebP or JPEG. If no smaller file is possible, your original is returned unchanged.
How to use it
- Choose a JPEG, PNG or WebP image (up to 50 MB).
- Set the quality: lower numbers give smaller files. Optionally limit the longest side in pixels.
- Compare the original and new size shown under the preview.
- Download the compressed image.
Example
- A photo at quality 75
- Input:1200 × 800 JPEG photo, quality 75
- Result:A smaller JPEG that is still 1200 × 800 pixels
What does Image Compressor do?
Image Compressor makes a JPEG, PNG or WebP file smaller by lowering its quality or capping its longest side. It shows the original and new size next to a preview.
How does Image Compressor work?
Your browser decodes the image, re-encodes it at the quality you choose using the browser-image-compression library, and hands you the result. All of this happens in your browser.
Is my data uploaded?
No. The image is read and processed in your browser and is never sent to a server.
Which formats and inputs does Image Compressor support?
Inputs: One JPEG, PNG or WebP image, identified by its file contents rather than its extension. Output: A compressed image in the same format, with its size and dimensions.
What are the limits and limitations of Image Compressor?
Limits: maximum file size 50.00 MB; maximum input size 100 megapixels; quality 1 to 100; longest-side cap 16 to 16,384 pixels; tested with a 1200 × 800 JPEG. PNG is lossless in browsers, so it only shrinks if you cap its size or convert it. Metadata such as EXIF is not kept.

Is my image uploaded?
No. Compression runs in your browser and the image never leaves your device.
Why did my PNG barely shrink?
Browsers encode PNG losslessly. Limit the longest side or convert to WebP or JPEG to make it smaller.
